How Percentage Is Calculated from Marks

The formula is straightforward: Percentage = (Total Obtained Marks รท Total Maximum Marks) ร— 100. If your subjects have different maximum marks โ€” some out of 80, others out of 100 โ€” you must total all the maximums, then divide by that combined total, not just by 100.

For CBSE, the passing mark is 33% in each subject individually. If you score 90% overall but fail one subject with 30%, you do not pass โ€” subject-level pass marks are checked separately from the aggregate. This calculator checks both.

The grade thresholds shown (A+, A, B+, B, C, D, F) are broadly accepted across Indian school boards. Your specific board or university may use slightly different cutoffs โ€” always verify with your official marksheet or institution.
