NSP Scholarships in Meghalaya

Meghalaya has one of the highest ST population proportions in Northeast India, with Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo communities making up the majority of the tribal scholarship applicants. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs' scholarships are the most relevant central schemes for Meghalaya students. Christian minority students also access the Ministry of Minority Affairs' schemes. The state government coordinates NSP verification through the Social Welfare Department.

How to Apply for NSP Scholarships in Meghalaya

1
Confirm your eligibility. Check your category (SC/ST/OBC/Minority/Merit), your income level, and your current course against the scheme criteria. Use the scheme guides linked above to verify eligibility before you spend time gathering documents.
2
Gather your documents before applying. The most common reason for rejection in Meghalaya is missing or invalid documentation. Get your income certificate, community certificate, bank passbook, and Aadhaar card ready before opening the NSP portal.
3
Register or log in at scholarships.gov.in. First-time applicants register with their Aadhaar number. Returning students log in to their existing account and apply for renewal. Ensure your Aadhaar is linked to your bank account before registering.
4
Select the correct scheme and complete the application. Choose the scheme matching your category and level. Fill all fields carefully โ€” name and Aadhaar details must match exactly with government records. Mismatches are the single biggest cause of payment failures.
5
Submit and track institute verification. After online submission, your institution's NSP nodal officer must verify your application. Follow up with your college's scholarship coordinator regularly โ€” institute verification is mandatory for the application to move forward to the state level.
Tip for Meghalaya Students

In Meghalaya, community certificates must be issued by the competent authority of the respective tribe's traditional administrative body or by the district office โ€” certificates from church authorities or NGOs are not valid for NSP.
