NSP Scholarship Documents Checklist
Every document you need before you start your NSP application โ organised by category so you know exactly what to gather based on your community and scheme.
Documents Everyone Needs
Every NSP scheme โ regardless of category, community, or level โ requires these core documents. Have all of these ready before you open the portal.
Aadhaar Card
Your Aadhaar number must be valid, active, and linked to your bank account. The name on Aadhaar must exactly match the name on your bank account and all other certificates. Even minor spelling differences (e.g., "Mohammed" vs "Mohammad") cause payment failures. If there is a mismatch, correct it at your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra before applying.
Format: JPG or PDF; scan clearly showing all details including Aadhaar numberBank Account Passbook (Aadhaar-seeded)
The bank account must be in the student's name (or parent's name for minor students where the scheme permits). The account must be seeded (linked) with your Aadhaar โ check the seeding status at your bank branch or through internet banking. The IFSC code and account number must be entered correctly on NSP. Dormant accounts or accounts with freezing orders will cause DBT failure.
Format: Clear scan/photo of the passbook cover page showing name, account number, IFSC codeIncome Certificate
Issued by a Tehsildar, SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate), or equivalent competent authority. Income certificates from Gram Panchayats or Revenue Inspectors alone are not accepted. The certificate must state the annual family income from ALL sources (salary, agriculture, business, rent, etc.) and must be dated within the current financial year at the time of application. Renewal applicants must obtain a fresh certificate every year.
Format: PDF or JPG; stamped and signed by the issuing authorityBonafide / Enrolment Certificate
Issued by your current institution (school, college, or university) confirming that you are a currently enrolled student in the academic year for which you are applying. It should mention your name, roll number, course, year of study, and the academic year. Get this early in the academic year โ many institutions face high demand and take time to issue them.
Format: PDF or JPG; signed and stamped by the institutionPrevious Year Marksheet
The marksheet of the examination you passed to gain admission to your current course/year. For fresh Class 11 applicants, this is the Class 10 marksheet. For a second-year UG student, this is the first-year result. The marksheet must show your name, institution, and the marks/grades clearly.
Format: PDF or JPGPassport-size Photograph
A recent passport-size photograph with a plain white or light background. The photograph must be recent โ old or blurry photographs are a common cause of application defects.
Format: JPG; typically under 50KB; minimum dimensions as specified on NSPAdditional Documents for SC/ST Applicants
Students applying under SC or ST scholarship schemes must additionally provide:
Caste Certificate (SC or ST)
Issued by a Tehsildar, SDM, District Magistrate, or equivalent competent authority. The certificate must specify the community name and state that the community is listed in the central SC or ST schedule. Generic letters from elected representatives are not valid. The certificate should be on government letterhead with official stamp and signature.
Format: PDF or JPG; clear enough to read the community name and authority detailsDisability Certificate (for SC/ST students with disabilities)
If claiming additional PwD allowance available under SC/ST post-matric schemes, a Disability Certificate showing at least 40% disability issued by a government medical board is required. This is optional and only needed if claiming PwD-specific benefits.
Format: PDF or JPGAdditional Documents for OBC/EBC Applicants
Students applying under OBC or EBC scholarship schemes must additionally provide:
OBC Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) Certificate
This is NOT the same as a basic OBC certificate. The NCL certificate confirms both (a) that your community is in the central OBC list and (b) that your family's income is below the Non-Creamy Layer threshold. It must be issued by a Tehsildar or SDM โ not a Gram Panchayat or MLA. It must be current-year. Many applications are rejected because students submit a basic OBC certificate without the NCL endorsement โ ensure your certificate explicitly says "Non-Creamy Layer".
Format: PDF or JPG; must show "Non-Creamy Layer" explicitlyYASASVI Entrance Test Admit Card & Result (for YASASVI only)
If applying for the YASASVI scholarship specifically, you must submit your NTA YASASVI Entrance Test admit card and the result/scorecard. This is in addition to all other documents.
Format: PDF or JPGAdditional Documents for Minority Applicants
Students applying under Ministry of Minority Affairs scholarship schemes must additionally provide:
Minority Community Certificate
Proof that you belong to one of the six notified minority communities: Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi, or Jain. The format accepted varies by state โ some states accept a self-declaration affidavit, while others require a certificate from the institution or a specific authority. Check with your state's Minority Welfare Department for the exact format. Religious community certificates from church, masjid, or gurdwara authorities alone are typically not sufficient.
Format: PDF or JPG; must identify the specific minority communityAdmission Letter and Fee Structure (for Merit-cum-Means only)
If applying for the Merit-cum-Means Scholarship specifically (for professional courses), you must additionally provide your admission letter from the institution and the institution's official fee structure document showing the course fees.
Format: PDFAdditional Documents for Merit-Based Schemes
Students applying under CSSS or PMSS-CAPF must additionally provide:
Proof of Top 20 Percentile Status (CSSS only)
For the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships (CSSS), you must prove that your Class 12 marks place you in the top 20 percentile of your state board. The board publishes the minimum marks corresponding to the top 20 percentile each year โ download or print the official board notification confirming this threshold and attach it alongside your marksheet.
Format: PDF or printout of board notificationCAPF/RPF Service or Discharge Certificate (PMSS-CAPF only)
Issued by the Records Office of the specific force (BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG, RPF, or Assam Rifles). It must mention the personnel's name, service number, rank, and dates of service. General letters from district offices or pension offices are not accepted โ only force-specific certificates from the official Records Office are valid.
Format: PDF or JPGRelationship Certificate (PMSS-CAPF only)
A certificate confirming the applicant's relationship to the CAPF/RPF personnel (ward or widow). This can be issued by the force through the Records Office, or by a gazetted officer, and must explicitly state the relationship.
Format: PDF or JPGDocument Preparation Tips
Common document issues cause a large proportion of NSP rejections. Follow these tips to prepare your documents correctly before uploading.
Format Requirements
Most NSP uploads accept JPG or PDF. Multi-page documents should be uploaded as PDF. Single-page documents can be JPG. Check each field's accepted format before uploading โ trying to upload the wrong format causes upload errors.
File Size Limits
Most NSP uploads have a maximum file size of 200KB per document. If your scan is larger, use any free image compression tool (TinyPNG, ILovePDF) to reduce the size. Compressing to 150KB gives a safe margin.
Scan Quality
Blurry, dark, or cropped documents are rejected at institute verification. Photograph documents in good natural light, keep the camera steady, and ensure the full document is visible with edges clearly captured. Do not photograph at an angle.
Certificate Validity
Income certificates are valid for one financial year. Bonafide certificates must be for the current academic year. Caste/community certificates generally do not expire but some states require annual renewal โ check your state's specific requirement.
Stamp and Signature
Government certificates must bear the official stamp and signature of the issuing authority. Certificates without stamps or illegible signatures are commonly rejected. Do not laminate original documents before scanning.
Name Consistency
Your name must appear consistently across all documents โ Aadhaar, bank account, certificates, and the NSP application. Discrepancies (different spellings, different initials) are a leading cause of payment failure and application defects.
