PM Internship Scheme Stipend & Financial Benefits
A complete breakdown of what you earn — monthly stipend, joining grant, insurance cover, and total earnings over 12 months.
Monthly Stipend: ₹5,000
The monthly stipend of ₹5,000 is funded by two sources — the Central Government and the participating company. The split is by design: the government contributes ₹4,500 via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), and the company contributes ₹500 from their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds.
How the Stipend is Split
₹6,000 Joining Grant
In addition to the monthly stipend, every selected intern receives a one-time ₹6,000 joining assistance grant credited to their bank account at the start of the internship. This is provided to help interns cover initial costs such as travel, accommodation, or work attire.
Total Earnings Over 12 Months
Free Insurance Coverage
All interns automatically receive government-funded insurance coverage from day one. No premium is deducted from the stipend.
When Will You Receive the Stipend?
The government portion (₹4,500) is credited via DBT directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account, typically on a monthly basis. The company portion (₹500) is credited by the company, usually on the same monthly cycle. If there are delays, you can raise a grievance on the official portal.
Ensure your bank account is active, not dormant, and is linked to your Aadhaar before joining. Failure to have a linked bank account will delay your stipend credit.
Is the Stipend Taxable?
The stipend received under the PM Internship Scheme is a government welfare payment and is generally not treated as taxable income for most interns whose total income is below the basic exemption limit. However, you should verify your specific situation with a tax advisor, especially if you have other sources of income.
