About This Scholarship

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) is a Central Sector scheme launched by the Ministry of Education to support academically talented students from economically weaker families, helping them stay in school from Class 9 all the way through Class 12. The scheme is unique because it requires students to qualify a state-level selection examination conducted by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) at the end of Class 8 — unlike most NSP schemes where eligibility is solely income and document-based. One lakh scholarships are awarded every year at ₹12,000 per year (₹1,000 per month), disbursed directly to the student's Aadhaar-linked bank account via PFMS. The scheme specifically targets students in government, government-aided, and local body schools — private unaided school students are not eligible. At the secondary level, students must pass in the first attempt with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) to continue receiving the scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

• Must have qualified the NMMS state-level selection examination conducted by SCERT while studying in Class 8
• Studying in a government, government-aided, or local body school — private unaided school students are not eligible
• Annual family income from all sources must not exceed ₹3.5 lakh
• At least 55% marks in Class 7 at the time of the state examination (50% for SC/ST students)
• Must pass Class 10 and 12 in the first attempt with at least 60% marks to continue renewal (55% for SC/ST)
• Not enrolled in any Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sainik School, or residential school where the state government pays all fees

How Much You Get

This scheme provides ₹12,000/year to eligible students. Income must not exceed ₹3.5 lakh/year from all sources, as certified by a competent authority. Scholarship money is disbursed directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account via PFMS — no institution or intermediary handles the funds.
