Child Belonging to Disadvantaged Group

A child from a "disadvantaged group" includes children from SC, ST, OBC/socially backward classes, and any other group notified by the State Government as facing social, cultural, economic, geographic, linguistic, or gender-based disadvantage.

A child from a "disadvantaged group" includes children from SC, ST, OBC/socially backward classes, and any other group notified by the State Government as facing social, cultural, economic, geographic, linguistic, or gender-based disadvantage.

Children from disadvantaged groups are entitled to 25% reservation in private unaided schools under Section 12(1)(c)/(d). They also have special non-discrimination protections under Sections 8 and 9.

Examples
  • A child from a Scheduled Caste family: disadvantaged group
  • A child from a Scheduled Tribe community: disadvantaged group
  • A child from OBC community (as notified by state): disadvantaged group
  • A girl in a region with historically low female enrollment (if notified): disadvantaged group
  • A child from a migrant/nomadic community (if notified): disadvantaged group
