Child Belonging to Weaker Section

A child from a "weaker section" family is one whose parent's annual income is below the limit set by the State Government. The income limit varies by state.

A child from a "weaker section" family is one whose parent's annual income is below the limit set by the State Government. The income limit varies by state.

Children from weaker section families qualify for the 25% quota in private schools under Section 12. The income limit is state-specific โ€” in some states it is โ‚น1 lakh per year, in others โ‚น3.5 lakh or higher. Families at or below this limit should apply for the 25% quota.

Examples
  • A family earning โ‚น80,000/year (if state limit is โ‚น1 lakh): weaker section
  • Income limit in Delhi: โ‚น1 lakh per annum (as of last notification)
  • Income limit in Maharashtra: โ‚น1 lakh per annum
  • Income limit varies โ€” check your state's current RTE notification
