About This Scholarship

Ishan Uday is a flagship UGC scholarship under the Ministry of Education, specifically designed to raise the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) of students from the eight North Eastern states of India — Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. The scheme provides a monthly stipend (not a lump sum), making it particularly effective for covering ongoing living and study expenses rather than just one-time fees. General degree students receive ₹5,400 per month, while those in technical, medical, or paramedical courses receive ₹7,800 per month. A total of 10,000 fresh scholarships are awarded every year, selected purely on the basis of state-wise merit. Ishan Uday is administered through NSP at scholarships.gov.in.

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be a permanent resident of one of the eight North Eastern states (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, or Tripura)
• Must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board within the North Eastern region
• Enrolled in the first year of a full-time undergraduate degree programme (general, technical, professional, medical, or paramedical) at a recognised institution
• Annual family income must not exceed ₹4.5 lakh from all sources
• Students already availing any other scholarship, those admitted under management quota, and those in diploma or open university courses are NOT eligible

How Much You Get

This scheme provides ₹5,400–₹7,800/month to eligible students. Income must not exceed ₹4.5 lakh/year from all sources, as certified by a competent authority. Scholarship money is disbursed directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account via PFMS — no institution or intermediary handles the funds.

Amounts may vary between day scholars and hostellers in schemes that have both categories. Always check the official scheme guidelines on scholarships.gov.in for the current year's amount structure, as rates are subject to periodic revision by the government.

Documents Required

• Domicile certificate from a competent authority confirming permanent residency in one of the 8 NE states
• Income certificate (not older than one year)
• Class 12 marksheet from a board in the North Eastern region
• Current year admission / enrolment certificate from recognised institution
• Aadhaar card (with mobile number linked to Aadhaar)
• Bank account passbook (Aadhaar-seeded, NPCI-linked for DBT)
